The Appraiser's Water Cooler

THE "Social Network" for Real Estate Appraisers

The changes in the world of real estate appraising today is amazing. I don't know if you've noticed but the AMC (appraisal management companies) along with FHA have no interest in just a residential appraiser any longer. it's either certified or nothing. What this means in my service areas of Mass and RI is 200 hours of classroom (not online classes actual classroom) and an associates degree or related classes. I don't know what was so bad about being just a licensed real estate appraiser. Can you imagine the cost just to become and appraiser and who will hire trainees if these companies won't allow them to appraise of in some cases work on appraisals. It is truly amazing. To end on a positive note though, all these changes will make the appraiser a valuable and rare commodity.

That sounds like a good thing Lori! Sometimes knowledge is power or maybe higher fees! :)

Interesting Lori,
I just had a conversation about this with a AR here is sunny southern California. I did notice that the AMC's wanted Certified and above. Since I need 34 more completed report to qualify for the AR exam, I was just thinking that I would just do them for free for the purpose of value or tax; or, maybe somebody just wants to know a reasonable price to place their home on the market. Paid or not I still get credit for my work as long as it is within USPAP standards.
By the way, most ARs I know turn down the assignment because of the pay.
