The Appraiser's Water Cooler

THE "Social Network" for Real Estate Appraisers

I concerned about signing up for all the AMC's.....knowing they really are not regulated, and what they do with all our information. They have a copy of our license, e/o, w-9/ with signature. The potential for fraud is great. Not to mention the problems with agreements/indemnity (TSI) - was just one more area of concern.

Do you worry about being hit by a comet? Are you worrying about global warming? Do you worry that the driver of the car coming toward you, but in the other-bound lane, will have a stroke and drive head-on into you? Do you worry about swine flu coming up from Mexico through San Diego and to your house?

If so, stop.

If not, good for you.

Don't worry, be happy!

Sue,
I generally provide that information with a "COPY" stamp on them or some identifying mark to show they are not genuine. But I hear you, it does make me nervous.

Here's my problem:
I have a client who has changed names and is now "getting in-line" with the HVCC and is requiring all the docs you mentioned plus they want our SSN's and DOB's for a background check!?! I insisted that we aren't comfortable giving that information and we are basically at a stale mate (no work) until we do this.

I'm not providing the info, but has anyone else had to deal with this and should this be a concern?

I've had them ask for SS # - it's part of the w-9 for taxes....
I don't remember any asking for DOB..

It is cause of worry/concern for me......
it looks like this "agreement" was never looked over for the appraiser's protection.

Looks like I'll have one less client. I offered my business tax i, which I usually put on the W-9, but that isn't good enough. Also, it bugs me that they have been a client of my appraisal partner since 2001 and our new business since 2005, but refuse to continue to work with us without this agreement.

I agree with you, seems that we, again, are getting the "shaft" here. Guess it could be worse, I haven't come across any yet that have asked my to accept liability for the costs if they resell the loan. (was on Appraisal Scoops front page).
